What is the basis for animal studies, and how does Bayer fulfill its responsibilities?

Anyone who conducts infoanimal studies has to operate within a very precisely defined legal framework. These requirements are designed to guarantee human safety and drug efficacy. On the other hand, they are also intended to prevent any unnecessary suffering by animals. One of the ways Bayer fulfils these requirements is through its principles for conducting animal studies to which the company adheres strictly - for the benefit of the animals.

Anyone involved in drug development bears a great responsibility - towards the people who hope to find cures for or relief from their conditions. It goes without saying that they should be treated with the most effective drugs. Bayer has already discovered many active ingredients - and is striving every day to develop new and better medicines. In this work, Bayer relies on studies conducted in animals. Bayer also bears a responsibility to these, our fellow creatures.

How Bayer fulfils this responsibility is documented by the principles for animal husbandry and animal studies which are reproduced here. The wide-ranging duties of the infoAnimal Welfare Officer also bear witness to the company’s responsible attitude towards animals. Finally, there are also adoption programs for study animals.
